(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – Director of Athletics Kelley Kish has announced that men's and women's golf will be returning to Lake Erie College beginning with the 2019-2020 season. The Storm most recently fielded golf teams during the 2015-16 season as members of the GLIAC before the teams went on hiatus.
"With the return of Storm Men's and Women's Golf, we are looking forward to adding these two programs to our existing 17 teams at Lake Erie College," stated Kish. "We know from our own history and the D-II golf landscape that we will be able to recruit student-athletes who will be champions in the classroom, in our community and in sport. We look forward to being part of the national rise for golf programs within the G-MAC through the hard work of our coaches and student-athletes."
This past spring, 11 men's teams and 10 women's teams competed in the G-MAC Golf Championships. Lake Erie has seen much success in just over a year in the conference with 14 of its 16 teams competing for or qualifying for G-MAC championships. Wrestling wasn't sponsored by the G-MAC last season, but the Storm are expected to be in the hunt for the first G-MAC championship later this year.
A national search for a head coach for both programs will begin immediately.
