PAINESVILLE, Ohio—Lake Erie College Athletic Director Reid Guarnieri announced the hiring of Jeremy “Jem” Smith as the Sports Information Director on Thursday (July 31).
Smith previously served as the Sports Information Graduate Assistant and the Interim Sports Information Director at Lake Erie College.
“We are pleased to usher in a new era in Sports Information at Lake Erie College with the permanent hire of Jem Smith,” said Guarnieri. “Jem is a highly educated individual who has shown he is on the cutting edge of the industry in his ability to produce high quality work in the areas of journalism, video production, social media and graphic design. These elements combined with his unquestioned devotion to the work should lead to continued success in the promotion and coverage of our exciting athletic programs.”
“I am excited to continue my experience with Lake Erie,” said Smith. “I am looking forward to building upon what has made our department and Storm athletics in general successful in the past few years while improving other facets of the department.”
Smith will direct the coverage of Lake Erie’s 21 varsity athletic teams, including coordinating and disseminating information about the teams and serving as the editor of LakeErieStorm.com.
As a graduate assistant in the sports information department at Lake Erie, Smith served as the primary media contact for men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s basketball, wrestling, swimming, men’s and women’s lacrosse and softball over the course of two years. Smith played a vital role in the development of the Lake Erie Storm Sports Network’s online presence by coordinating all video production for the Department’s YouTube channel as well as social media content. He produced the “Eye of the Storm” video series and earned a creative producer credit- as well as an on-camera appearance for the acclaimed 2013 Storm Baseball season preview and the men’s lacrosse “From Pressbox to Playing Field” videos. Smith also served as a creator and editor for several department publications.
Before Lake Erie, Smith served as a student assistant at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa. Smith was one of the primary contacts for the Bearcats’ men’s lacrosse team while also serving as a videographer, photographer and statistician for the department.
Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Saint Vincent in 2011, a Master’s of Science in Sports Management from California University of Pennsylvania in 2013 and a Master’s of Business Administration from Lake Erie in 2014.
