Lake Erie Loses on the Road to Mercyhurst

ERIE, Pa. (April 4, 2009) - Lake Erie College lost twice on the road to Mercyhurst College Saturday afternoon, 6-0 and 8-5. The Storm suffered through a no-hit performance in the first game before bouncing back in the second game to hold a 5-4 lead after five complete innings. The host Lakers posted a three-hit inning for four runs in the sixth to earn the sweep.

Lake Erie outhit the hosts 10-9 in game two after being led by senior designated hitter John Shaposka (Mentor, Ohio/Cornerstone Christian) who went 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs and freshman third baseman Michael Morgan (Russells Point, Ohio/Indian Lake) who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Senior Ben Reed (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) also had two hits, including a double. Freshman Cameron Castro (Lorain, Ohio/Southview) threw three innings without a decision. He struck out one and gave up two earned runs.

Lake Erie (5-19) will look to reverse the situation tomorrow as it hosts Mercyhurst in a double header at Classic Park at noon. Gates open at 11:30 a.m. and admission is $5. The afternoon will be dedicated to former Lake Erie employee Paul Robare who recently passed away unexpectedly.
