EVANSVILLE, IND. – The Lake Erie College baseball team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but immediately gave it all back and then some as host University of Southern Indiana scored six times in the bottom half of the first frame en route to a 16-4 win in the series finale Sunday (Feb. 24).
Senior Zach Mosbarger (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Bellefontaine) tied a career high with three hits in the loss, including a two-run single in the first that gave Lake Erie (0-3) a 3-0 lead.
Classmate Patrick Kilway (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) had two hits and drove in two runs and three other Storm hitters had two hits as the LEC offense had its best day of the weekend with 13 base hits.
But the Eagles (3-0) bats were better on Sunday, belting out 16 hits including three from Brent Weinzapfel. Weinzapfel and B.J. Willis each drove in five runs on the day. Willis drove in two runs in the six-run first while Weinzapfel had a two-run in a six-run fourth inning that put the game away. He added a two-run homer in the seventh.
