CHILLICOTHE, OHIO – Freshman 1B Zach Decamp (Gahanna, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) homered in both games, including a grand slam in the opener, and the Lake Erie College baseball team scored 18 runs in a nonconference doubleheader sweep of Notre Dame College Saturday (March 16) at V.A. Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.  The Storm won 10-2 and 8-1.

Lake Erie (3-8) took advantage of two third-inning errors by the Falcons to load the bases before Decamp cleared them with a drive over the left center field fence for his second home run of the season.  The Storm followed that up with four more runs in the fourth to make it 8-0. Sophomore SS Josh Hudeck (Macedonia, Ohio/Trinity/Ashland) had the big blow in the frame with a two-run triple and later scored on another Notre Dame (8-14) error.

That offense was more than enough for junior starter Brian Kilway (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) who took a perfect game into the sixth inning.  Kilway (2-1) retired the first 16 batters he faced until walking Brennan Singleton with one out in the sixth.  Pat Ross followed with a single to right center to end the no-hit bid.

Kilway gave up two hits in 5 2/3 innings with a walk and three strikeouts. He was charged with two earned runs in winning his second straight start and picking up a victory for the eighth time in his last nine decisions dating back to last season.

DeCamp led the way with two hits, two runs and four RBI in the opener. Sophomore C Dylan Yankle (Dublin, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) also had two hits and doubled in two runs in the fifth.  Senior 3B Cody Blood (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut) had a pair of hits and Hudeck scored two times.

Matt Kastelic (3-2) allowed eight runs, but just three earned, on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings to suffer the loss. Jared Clovis and Jesse Bartle each had a hit and RBI for the Falcons.

Lake Erie led 1-0 early in game two thanks to an RBI single in the third inning by senior OF Zach Mosbarger (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Bellefontaine) before breaking it open with a six-run fifth inning.

DeCamp hit an opposite field two-run homer to right to start the scoring and Mosbarger followed three batters later with another run-scoring single. With one out, freshman C Rutger Luebke (Medina, Ohio/Medina) delivered a two run single and he later scored on a base hit by Hudeck that made it a 7-0 game.

Sophomore Aaron Lindgren (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South), making his first appearance of the season in game one after missing the start of the season due to an injury suffered during football season, drove in a run with a two-out single in the sixth to cap the Storm's scoring.

Redshirt sophomore Brandon Grunda (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) picked up the win with four innings of solid relief work.  After senior starter Doug Fox (Parma, Ohio/Valley Forge) tossed three scoreless innings, Grunda (1-0) came on and worked the final four frames. He allowed just one unearned run on two hits with three strikeouts.

Mosbarger was the only Storm player with two hits in game two while he, DeCamp and Luebke all finished with two RBI.

Jon Koepf had two hits to lead the Falcons. Starter Tanner Scott (2-3) took the loss on the mound,  giving up five runs on three hits and eight walks in four innings. He did strike out six hitters.

The two teams will play another doubleheader on Sunday, March 17, in Chillicothe starting at noon.
