DETROIT, MICH. – After mounting little offense to open the series, the Lake Erie College baseball team broke out on Sunday (March 30) with three players getting four hits apiece as the Storm rolled to an 11-4 victory at Wayne State University to win the final game of the weekend Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference set.
The Storm (6-15, 3-5 GLIAC) posted season highs in hits and runs in snapping a four-game losing streak.
Sophomore Aaron Lindgren (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) proved the big blow early, with a three-run opposite-field home run over the 20-foot-high wall in left field at the WSU Baseball Field. That blast highlighted a five-run top of the first for Lake Erie.
Eric Cunningham singled in two runs in the bottom of the first for the Warriors (13-10, 4-4) but the Storm put the game away early with another five run inning, this time in the third, to make it a 10-2 game.
All the offense backed another strong start from senior starter Adam Beach (Vermillion, Ohio/Vermillion). Beach (2-3) pitched into the eighth inning to win his second straight start. He allowed two earned runs (three totals) on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts in seven innings.
Beach allowed just two hits after Cunningham's first-inning single. The win was the 16th of his career, breaking a tie with Paul Roskos to become Lake Erie's all-time pitching wins leader.
Lindgren, DeCamp and sophomore Dylan Yankle (Dublin, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) each finished with four hits in the game. That total was a career high for both Lindgren and Yankle and matched DeCamp's personal best.
Lindgren singled in another run in the sixth for his third career four-RBI game.
Wayne State scored two runs in the eighth after a pair of Lake Erie errors. Senior Doug Fox (Parma, Ohio/Valley Forge) closed it out by striking out the side in a perfect ninth.
In addition to the trio of Lindgren, DeCamp and Yankle, who combined to go 12-of-15 with seven RBI and five runs scored, senior Patrick Kilway (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) had two hits and drove in two runs. Zach Mosbarger (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Bellefontaine) walked twice and scored two runs.
Wayne State starter David Frederick (1-2) was tagged for 10 runs, including seven earned, on nine hits in 2 2/3 innings. Jimmy Jackson had two of the Warrirors' four hits.
The Storm is scheduled to open the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday, April 2, with a doubleheader against Ashland University.
