Storm Battle Back But Panthers Advance in 11 Innings, 8-7,

YPSILANTI, MICH. – Going back-and-forth game against Ohio Dominican University in an elimination game Friday (May 10) at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, the Lake Erie College baseball team rallied to tie the game in the ninth and then went ahead in the 11th, but ultimately came up just short in extending the season as the Panthers advanced with an 8-7 victory.

Trailing 6-4 with two on and one out in the top of the ninth, sophomore Aaron Lindgren (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) drilled a double to left center that brought in both runners, knotting the score and forcing extra innings.

After the scoreless tenth, the Storm (18-30) pushed across a run thanks to a fielding error and went into the bottom of the frame up 7-6.  But ODU (25-27) responded and loaded the bases without a hit in the bottom of the inning where Anthony Raschilla delivered a one-out, two-run single through the left side of the infield for the walk-off win.

Lindgren went 3-for-4 with three RBI, including a pair of doubles. He also walked twice, including once intentionally. Sophomore Josh Hudeck (Macedonia, Ohio/Trinity/Ashland) and senior Patrick Kilway (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) each had two hits. Junior Garrett Emling (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) drove in two runs while redshirt freshman Tyler Lindgren (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) scored twice.

Raschilla and Collin Parcher, who drove in the first run of the game with a single, each had three hits to lead the Panthers.

Down 1-0 in the fifth, Lindgren doubled to tie the game and Emling followed with a two-run single to give the Storm a 3-1 lead.  Raschilla and Parcher each drove in a run during a three-run rally by ODU in the bottom half as the Panthers went back on top 4-3.

A Kilway groundout scored Hudeck in the sixth to tie the game at 4-4 before the Panthers scored two unearned runs in the eighth to go back on top, leading to Lindgren's two-run double the next frame.

Ryan Colegate (3-2) earned the win after allowing an unearned run and just one hit in 2 2/3 innings of relief. That one hit was Lindgren's game-tying double. Nick Vendetti went the first 8 1/3, throwing 120 pitches.  He was charged with six total runs (three earned) on 10 hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Storm junior starter Brad Raley (Hinckley, Ohio/Highland) allowed four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings, striking out seven Panthers and walking just one. Sophomore Heath Kelley (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) suffered the loss, working 2 1/3 innings of relief, including two hitless innings before Raschilla's game-winning hit.

Ryan Rovnak and Jacob Horsley had two hits apiece for Ohio Dominican, who advances to face Ashland University Saturday, May 11, in an elimination game at 11 a.m.
