Storm Falls to Saginaw Valley in Non-Conference Contest

CLEARWATER, Fla.—The Lake Erie College baseball team fell to Saginaw Valley State University in a non-conference contest Thursday (March 5) in Clearwater, Fla.

The Storm got on the board in the top of the first, with Aaron Lindgren (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) scoring off the bat of Zak DeCamp (Gahanna, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales).  However, the Cardinals answered by scoring six in the bottom of the frame.

After the Cardinals lead grew to six Lucas Raley (Hicnkley, Ohio/Medina Highland) hit a two run homerun in the top of the third, scoring Austin Bovenzi (Fairport, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) to cut the lead to four.  In the fifth, DeCamp had his second RBI of the game, bringing Raley across the plate to cut the lead to three.

However, it was not enough as the Cardinals added five runs in the final innings to seal the win.

Raley led the Storm's offense with three hits in four at-bats, scoring two runs.  Darren Sackett (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) and Louie Peterlin (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) had two hits apiece.  DeCamp had one hit and two RBI.  Bovenzi and Lindgren each had a run while Tyler Kmitt (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) had a hit.

Brian Bullock (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) had the start for the Storm, giving up two earned runs over five innings.  Michael Stryffeler (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) and Wes Birchmeier (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) combined for two scoreless innings.

The Storm is back in action tomorrow for a double-header against Seton Hill University.
