Storm Splits with Seventh-Ranked Seton Hill

CLEARWATER, Fla.—The Lake Erie College baseball team split a doubleheader against seventh-ranked Seton Hill University Friday (March 6) in Clearwater, Fla.  

The Storm won game one 7-6 before falling in game two, 6-1.

GAME ONE

The Storm struck first in the top of the second.  Zak DeCamp (Gahanna, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) led off the inning with a triple.  Sean Mathews (Washington, Mich./Warren De La Salle) brought DeCamp home with a single.  Later in the inning, Louie Peterlin (Mentor, Ohio, Lake Catholic) brought Mathews home.  The Griffins plated one in the bottom of the second to cut the Storm lead to one. 

The Storm bats came alive in the top of the fourth.  With the bases loaded, Mathews triple to bring home Austin Bovenzi (Fairport, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit), Lucas Raley (Hicnkley, Ohio/Medina Highland) and DeCamp.  Mathews crossed the plate later in the inning to give the Storm a 6-1 lead.

After the Griffins scored two in the bottom of the third, the Storm lead increased to 7-3 in the top of the fourth when a Raley sacrifice fly brought Bovenzi home. 

The Griffins scored three more runs but it was not enough to overcome the Storm lead in game one.

Mathews led the Storm with two hits, two runs and four RBI.  DeCamp and Bovenzi had a hit and a run apiece.  Raley had one hit, one run and one RBI while Peterlin had a RBI. 

Russ Hogue (Belle Center, Ohio/Indian Lake) picked up the win on the mound for the Storm, going 5.2 innings, allowing eight hits and four earned runs.  Brandon Grunda (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) picked up the save, going `1.1 innings without allowing a hit.

GAME TWO

The Griffins held the Storm to just one run and two hits as they picked up the win.  Aaron Lindgren (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby) hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth.  Nico DiInni (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) also had a hit. 

Heath Kelley (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) pitched a complete game for the Storm, striking out three.

The Storm is back in action tomorrow to face West Chester University.
