Storm Walk Off in Game Two Against Saginaw Valley

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College baseball team was in action today as they split a double header with Saginaw Valley.   

The Storm jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first as Austin Bovenzi (Fairport, N.Y. / McQuaid Jesuit) led off the inning with a double, and the next batter Lucas Raley (Hinckley, Ohio / Medina Highland) singled for the Storm.  Bovenzi was driven in by Zak Decamp (Gahanna, Ohio / St. Francis DeSales) as he reached on an error, and gave the Storm a 1-0 advantage.  The Cardinals tied the game with a run in the third inning.  The Storm answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning, when Decamp singled to right field to drive home Raley.  A solo homerun in the fourth and a run in the fifth gave the Cardinals a 3-2 advantage. The Storm tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when Raley hit a solo homerun.  A solo homerun in the top of the seventh gave the Cardinals a 4-3 lead and the Storm fell 4-3.         

The Storm took an early lead in game two in the first inning as Ryan Grieco (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional) and Rutger Luebke (Medina, Ohio / Medina) led off the inning with back to back singles.  Grieco was later driven in by a Nigel Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio / La Salle) single.  Raley who earlier reached on a fielder's choice was driven in by Kody Bledsoe (Elyria, Ohio / Amherst Steele), and Williams scored on an error by the catcher, to give the Storm a 3-0 advantage.  The Cardinals responded with a run in the second to cut the Storm lead to 3-1.  The Cardinals took a 4-3 advantage with a three run homerun in the third.  The Storm tied the game in the third when Bledsoe singled home Luebke, to tie the game at four runs apiece.  The Storm regained the lead in the fifth when Williams hit a three run homerun, to give the Storm a 7-4 advantage.  The Cardinals added a run the seventh and two more in the ninth to tie the game at seven.  The Storm won the game in the bottom of the ninth.  The Storm worked the bases loaded and Bledsoe hit a sacrifice fly to right to score the pinch runner Jake Csizmadia (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria).                   

Lake Erie will return to the diamond Tuesday (April 5th) when they travel to take on Mercyhurst University.
