2009: Played in all 11 games, making seven starts after switching to secondary from offensive side of the ball… finished fifth on team in tackles, making 49 total… had 30 solo stops… had one interception, which he returned for 84 yards and a touchdown in season finale at Wesley on 11/7… play was the longest in Lake Erie history… returned 19 punts for 240 yards and a touchdown… recorded team’s first return for touchdown with 60-yard score at Saint Joseph’s on 9/19… ranked 19th in NCAA Division II in punt return average (12.6)… made a career-high 10 tackles vs. Ohio Dominican on 10/3… had eight tackles – all solo- at Adrian on 9/26… on offense ran the ball once for five yards in opener at Gannon on 8/27 and caught one pass for 21 yards vs. Fairmont State on 9/5.
2008: Played in 10 games as a true freshman … rushed five times for 51 yards and caught five passes for 53… returned one punt for 13 yards… also made seven tackles on special teams… set career-highs with three receptions for 41 yards vs. Wesley on 11/8… ran three times for 32 yards, including 19-yard scamper, at Charleston (W. Va.) on 10/25.
PRIOR TO LAKE ERIE: Four-year standout in football and baseball at South Range High School… on the gridiron, was a first-team all-conference and district pick while earning honorable mention All-Ohio… graduated as sixth leading scorer in school history… played on three conference champions and helped team to regional crown in 2005… was a first-team all-league pick in baseball.
PERSONAL: Born July 8, 1989… majoring in biology (pre-physical therapy) and minoring in psychology… parents are Robert and Nancy Bensinger… cousin Sam is a softball player at Waynesburg University… involved in student government and is a resident assistant on campus.
