Storm Football Announces Signing Day Class (With Video Interview)

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College football team announced the signing of 14 student-athletes to letters of intent on Thursday, Feb. 3, the day after the start of the national signing period.  Thirteen of those first members of the Storm's recruiting class will join the program in the fall.

Antony Zitello enrolled in school at the start of the semester and will take part in spring drills with the team.

"We are very proud and excited about this initial group of signees," said Head Coach Mark McNellie. "They are all very strong students and great young men. We feel we have addressed some areas of need and also continued to add strength across the board. This group immediately adds size and athleticism to our team. This is a big day for Lake Erie College and Storm Football!

The signing day class is comprised of eight defensive players, five offensive and one specialist.

"Defensively, we've added a group of guys who make plays and play with great energy," McNellie added.  "The players added to the offensive side of the ball are a perfect fit for our system and will continue our growth on that side of the ball."

The Storm graduated just six players from the 2010 team that completed its first season in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) by winning three of its final four games.  Two of those losses were on offense and the other four on defense and special teams.

"Our coaching staff, and our current players, deserve a lot of credit for the hard work they put in attracting our recruiting class this year," McNellie added.  "Our players represent the College well and do a great job educating anyone who visits campus what it means and takes to be part of the Storm. Although we are far from being finished we feel this group is already our strongest in the short history of our program. We are working on several others that will bolster this already impressive group."

Additional student-athletes will be announced at a later date once they are cleared for release through the Department of Athletics' compliance office.
