GAMEDAY CENTRAL: Storm Host Malone on Homecoming, Look for Second Straight Win

Lake Erie looks for its second straight victory when it hosts GLIAC newcomer Malone on Homecoming/Alumni Weekend in Painesville… the Storm (1-5, 1-4 GLIAC) snapped a season-opening five-game losing streak with a 38-35 win over Notre Dame College last week in the first meeting between the only two Cleveland area DII teams… freshman RB Anthony Bilal
(Painesville Riverside) ran for a career-high 192 yards and two touchdowns to lead the offensive attack. It was his second straight 100-yard game and third overall this season. He tops the team with 608 yards and seven TDs in five games… senior quarterback Patrick Nicely
(Willoughby South/Akron)scored the game-winning touchdown against ND on a 13-yard scramble with just over six minutes to go. He also threw a four-yard TD pass to Cole Gordon
(Naples, Fla.) earlier in the game… sophomore LB/S Tanner Wells
(Carrollton, Texas) led the defense with 14 tackles (10 solo) and intercepted a pass in the end zone while also scoring on a 48-yard touchdown run on a fake punt on Lake Erie's opening possession. That play earned him GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors… classmate Marcus Rogers
(Kent) also finished with a career-high 14 tackles and redshirt freshman Austin Hoeflich
(Fredericktown) had a personal-best 12 stops… freshman CB Aturo Morgan
(Lakewood) picked off his first career interception in the win… the Storm is 0-2 at home this season, with losses to nationally-ranked Saginaw Valley State and Ferris State… Malone was defeated by archrival Malone last week, 34-7, committing five turnovers in the loss… the Pioneers (1-4, 1-4 GLIAC) average just 15.6 points per game but ranked fifth in pass defense and ninth in total defense in the 16-team GLIAC.
UP NEXT: Lake Erie returns is home again next week against the University of Findlay on "Career Services Employer Appreciation Day" Saturday, Oct. 20, with a 1 p.m. kickoff at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium. It will also be the annual Student-Athlete Advisory Committee "Trick or Treat on the Track" at halftime for kids 12-and-under.
