Storm Defeated by Panthers

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Lake Erie College football team was in action today as they were defeated by Ohio Dominican, 51-0.

The Storm opened the game on defense, and the defense stood tall as they forced a Panthers punt.  The Ohio Dominican punt was downed on the Storm one yard line.  On Lake Erie's opening offensive snap the Panthers defense tackled Michael Swanson (Pontiac, Mich. / Oakland Christian) in the endzone for a safety.  The Panthers took their ensuing drive 67 yards over five plays, and capped the drive with a touchdown pass to take a 9-0 lead in the first quarter.  The Storm offense found a little grove as they had a nine play drive in which quarterback Javarian Smith (Pontiac, Mich. / Oakland Christian) completed all six of his pass attempts.  Lake Erie's drive stalled out however as they were unable to put points on the board.  The Panthers added to their lead late in the first quarter, with a one yard touchdown rush, to take a 17-0 advantage into the second quarter.

Ohio Dominican continued their strong play in the second quarter as they scored 13 unanswered points and took a 30-0 advantage into the intermission.

The Panthers opened the third quarter with 14 unanswered points.  Late in the third quarter, the Storm defense showed some fight as Josh Weaver (Hamilton, Ohio / Fairfield) forced a fumble that was recovered by Isaiah Wheeler (Copley, Ohio / Copley/Stark State).  The Lake Erie offense was unable to convert the turnover into points and entered the fourth quarter trailing Ohio Dominican.

The Storm defense opened the fourth quarter with a defensive stop on fourth and three.  Armand Chalk (Tampa, Florida / Hillsbourgh) made the play for Lake Erie as he tackled the ball carrier in the backfield for a loss.  Later in the fourth quarter the Panthers tacked on a touchdown and won the game, 51-0.

The Storm offense was led by Smith as he had a very efficient night, completing 15 of his 20 pass attempts for 142 yards.  Jason Blizzard (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) was the leading pass catcher, as he had five receptions for 65 yards.

The Storm defense was led by Zach Jude (Canal Winchester, Ohio / Bloom Carroll) as he had a game high 14 total tackles, one of which was for a loss.  Adam Mial (Beverly Hills, Mich. / Detroit Country Day) pitched in with 11 tackles on the night and also had one tackle for a loss.

Lake Erie will be back in action Saturday (Sept. 30) when they host Alderson Broaddus with the game set to kick off at 12 p.m.
