PAINESVILLE, OHIO -- Sophomore Garrick Sims (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton) scored a team-high 17 points to lead four Storm players in double figures in the Lake Erie College men's basketball team's exhibition opener at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada on Friday (Oct. 15), but Jonathan Moscatelli tallied a game-high 28 points to lead the hosts to an 87-74 victory.

Sophomore Alex Davis (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) added 14 points and classmate Eric Worthey (South Euclid, Ohio/CVCA) chipped in with 12 off the bench for the Storm, which shot 40.6 percent from the field in the game.  Junior newcomer Brandon Smith (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford/Cuyahoga CC) was the fourth player in double figures with 11.

Moscatelli connected on eight-of-11 three-point attempts and scored 14 points in each half.  The Gryphons improved to 3-1 in their exhibition season by shooting 52.5% in the game.

Lake Erie led 5-3 earlier on buckets by Sims and senior Ethan Bradshaw (Cincinnati, Ohio/Harmony Prep) but Moscatelli hit a three to give Guelph a lead it would never relinquish.  The Storm trailed by nine at halftime and were outrebounded in the contest 38-30.

The Storm wraps up its four-day, two-game Canadian exhibition trip on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 17) at McMaster University.
