Basketball Teams to Host Preview Night Nov. 1
PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Lake Erie College basketball fans will get their first look at the 2012-13 edition of the Storm men's and women's teams on Thursday night, Nov. 1, during the "Taking the Court by Storm" Basketball Preview Night at the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic and Wellness Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. that evening with the event beginning at 7 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public, with t-shirts handed out to the first 200 fans. The night will feature introductions of the men's and women's teams and coaches, three-point contests, a dunk contest, 10-minute intrasquad scrimmages for each team, fan contests, raffles and prizes.
"This promises to be a fun, entertaining and exciting evening and we hope that there will be a lot of support for our teams both on campus and in the community," said men's head coach Cliff Hunt. "We are very excited about the upcoming season and think the Preview Night event will really set the stage for our year."
The Lake Erie men return seven letterwinners from last season, including four starters - led by juniors Riley Thomas (Cardington, Ohio/Cardington Lincoln) and Rich Austin (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius)- and the team's sixth man plus welcome back starting center Garrick Sims (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton), who missed all of last season with an injury. The Storm posted a 10-16 mark a year ago and are poised for their best season to date since making the move to Division II four seasons ago.
The men play an exhibition game Nov. 9 at Division I Bowling Green State University before officially opening the campaign Nov. 14 at home against Point Park University.
On the women's side, head coach Bob Booher must replace eight graduated seniors including a trio of 1,000-point scorers from last year's team that went 16-11 and qualified for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament for the first time. The Storm return senior guard Sarah Wojciechowski (Randolph, Ohio/Waterloo), junior wing Chrissy Delaney (Delaware, Ohio/Lewis Center Olentangy) and get sophomore post Jodie Jindra (Sunbury, Ohio/Big Walnut) back from injury.
The women open their season Nov. 13 at home against Seton Hill University.
"We will have a young team, but one that should be exciting to watch and grow as the season progresses," Booher said. "I know the kids are exciting about the preview night and having the opportunity to have some fun in a great atmosphere before the season gets under way."
The programs are also seeking Patron Sponsors for the event. If you are interested in helping support the Preview Night as a patron sponsor, please contact men's coach Cliff Hunt (firstname.lastname@example.org or 440.375.7477) or women's coach Bob Booher (email@example.com or 440.375.7476).
