Storm Men Sixth, Austin Preseason All-GLIAC South Pick

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College men's basketball team was picked to finish sixth in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South Division in the annual preseason media poll released by the league office on Wednesday (Oct. 31) in conjunction with the GLIAC Basketball Media Day website launch.
The Storm (10-16, 5-14 GLIAC in 2011-12) received 72 points in the voting conducting by members of the media who cover the 16 member schools in the conference. The University of Findlay is the preseason favorite to win the division, recording 178 points in the voting, including 17 first-place votes. Hillsdale College was second with five first-place votes and 159 points, followed by Ashland University with the remaining first-place vote and 140 points. Tiffin University (86 points) is fourth and GLIAC newcomer Walsh University (78) is fifth, just ahead of the Storm. Lake Erie is followed in the poll by the other new league member, Malone University (70), and Ohio Dominican University (45).
Michigan Technological University is the favorite in the North Division with 157 points, though the eight first-place votes they received were one fewer than Wayne State University, which came in second with 155 points.
Additionally, junior Rich Austin (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius) was named to the Preseason All-GLIAC South Division Second Team.

The 2012 GLIAC Men's and Women's Basketball Media Day Central Websites went live at 12 p.m. (EDT) on Oct. 31 and include information on the upcoming campaign with video season preview from each of the respective 32 head men's and women's basketball coaches in the GLIAC.
The 2012 GLIAC Men's and Women's Basketball Preseason Media Polls and the 2012-13 Preseason All-GLIAC Teams, selected by the coaches, were released in conjuction with the launch of the sites. Additionally, the GLIAC's annual preseason previews are featured, written by Sandy Gholston.
This year marks the third-straight season in which the league has launched the Media Day Central sites to promote the conference. Each head coach filmed a short video segment discussing their respective teams and the upcoming season.
The 2012 GLIAC men's and women's basketball seasons officially kick off with non-conference games on Friday, Nov. 9. The League begins Conference play on Thursday, Nov. 29.
The 2013 GLIAC men's and women's basketball tournament will begin with quarterfinal play on campus sites on Mar. 6. The tournament semifinals and finals will be held on Mar. 9-10 at the site of the highest remaining seed after the quarterfinals.
