Late Free-Throws Lift Storm Over Ohio Dominican

COLUMBUS, Ohio-- With less than a minute to play, Andy Bosley (Columbus, Ohio/Orange) hit a pair of clutch free-throws to lift the Storm to a 60-59 win at Ohio Dominican University on Saturday (Feb. 27).


The teams traded baskets early on until the Storm gained control on the back of an 11-4 run to pull ahead 17-10 at the halfway mark of the first half.  The Storm continued to maintain control, as Michael Morris (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) scored eight points in a two-minute stretch.  Riley Thomas (Cardington, Ohio/Cardington-Lincoln) increased the Storm lead with a three-pointer, putting the Storm up 29-19 with less than five to play in the half.  After the Panthers cut the lead to six, Roy Alexander scored five quick points to increase the Storm lead to 11 heading into the break.

Morris led the Storm with 10 points in the opening frame. Alexander and Thomas eight and seven respectively.  Garrick Sims (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton) had five offensive rebounds. The Storm hit 15-of-33 (45.5%) of their shots, including five-of-14 (35.7%) of their three-pointers.


The Panthers rallied to start the second-half, taking a 43-42 lead a the lead off a Reece Dils three-pointer at the 12 minute mark.  The Storm fought back, tying it up at 47 four minutes later on a pair of Sean Howard (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) free-throws.  


With game tied up, the Storm scored the next four points-two from Alexander and two from Sims- before the Panthers answered with four to once again tie it up.  Morris hit his third three of the game to put the Storm back in front but Ohio Dominican was relentless, taking back the lead at 59-58 with two minutes to play.


With less than a minute to play, Bosley was sent to to the free-throw line with the Storm trailing by one.  With ice in his veins, Bosley drained both of his free-throws to put the Storm in front. 


After draining the free-throws, the Storm defense held tough, holding onto the one point win.


Morris led the Storm with 13 points while Thomas and Alexander ended with 11 and 10 respectively. Sims had a team-high 11 rebounds to go with his eight points. Bosley netted eight while grabbing six rebounds.


The Storm hit 24-of-59 (40.7%) shots, holding the Panthers to 22-of-55 (40%). Ohio Dominican had a slight edge in rebounds, 40-36.  The teams were even with 10 turnovers each.


Trent Weaver led the Panthers with 14 points and 14 rebounds.  Don Kellum also had 14 while Brandon Carr and Chad Nelson had 11 and 10 respectively.


The Storm conclude the season on Thursday (Feb. 27) at Ashland University.
