Storm Falls in GLIAC Contest to Walsh

CANTON, Ohio— The Lake Erie College men's basketball team fell at Walsh University 83-60 Saturday (Jan. 16) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South Division play. 

The Cavaliers jumped out to an early lead but Roy Alexander (Columbus, Ohio/Walnut Grove) kept it close with a pair of three-pointers.  Up 10-6, the Cavaliers went on a 5-0 run leading into the first media timeout.  Following the timeout, the Cavalier lead grew by as much as 17 as they continued to control the pace of the game.

The Storm started to heat up after the second media timeout, going on a 12-4 run to cut the gap to eight, 30-22.  Down the final stretch of the half, the teams traded scoring possessions as they Cavaliers owned a 43-34 lead at the break.

Alexander led the Storm with 14 points in the opening half.  Trey Howard (Lima, Ohio/Lima Shawnee) was also in double-digits with 13. 

The Cavaliers continued their up-tempo play throughout the second half, leading by as much as 27 as they secured the win.

Alexander led the Storm with a career-high 20 points, hitting five three-pointers while grabbing three rebounds.  Trey Howard finished with 17 points.  Brogan Scott (Wadsworth, Ohio/Highland) had a career-high seven points.  Steve Walczak (Columbus, Ohio/Olentangy) had a season-high eight rebounds off the bench.  Andy Bosley (Columbus, Ohio/Orange) had four assists. 

Overall, the Storm turned the ball over just five times.  The teams were even on the boards, each grabbing 33 rebounds.  Of the Storm's 60 points, 19 came off the bench.

The Storm is back in action (Jan. 21) at Wayne State University.
