STORM WARNING: Men's Basketball Set For Season Opener With Ashland

(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – After an appearance in the G-MAC Tournament semifinal this past March, the higher goals have been set for this year's edition of the Lake Erie Storm men's basketball team. The Green and White, led by Head Coach Kyle Conley, tips off the season Friday night against former conference rival Ashland.

Lake Erie was picked to finish sixth in the 13-team Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The Storm were one of six teams to receive over 100 points in the voting process with 101 points. They also received one of the 13 first place votes.

Gabe Kynard returns as the lone All-Conference player from last year's squad. The 6-0 junior from Toledo led the team in points per game with 15.6 a contest. Leading the rebound department is Lamont Rhodes, back from an impressive rookie campaign where he pulled down 5.3 caroms per game.

Jordan Humphrey also returns as the team's second-leading scorer from a year ago with 8.9 points per game. Both he and Kynard clipped the nets with a 47.5-percent success rate to lead the Storm.

Lake Erie will open up with Ashland before heading on the road Sunday to take on another former conference rival in Wayne State. From there the Storm returns home for a pair of games against Central State and Edinboro.

The conference slate won't begin until the end of the month with Lake Erie entertains Alderson Broaddus a week after Thanksgiving.
