Storm Overpowers Central State 88-65

(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – Lake Erie clipped the nets at nearly a 50-percent rate as it topped Central State 88-55 in non-conference action at the Osborne Center Wednesday evening. It was the second consecutive win for the Storm (2-1), while it kept the Marauders winless (0-3) on the short season.

The Storm were hot from the start as they made six of their first eight shots to jump out to a 13-0 lead over the first four minutes. Harrison Riggs started the spark with five of his 13 points on the first two buckets of the game.

The Marauders did make an attempt to get back into the game with the next seven points, their largest run of the game, but any hope of generating further momentum was quelled with a 16-2 run over the next 5:51 to take a 20-point lead.

Lake Erie led by as many as 31 after Erron James dropped in a layup on an assist from Riggs to make the score 72-41 with 9:06 to go in the game.

Gabe Kynard once again led the Green and White with 16 points and was 6-of-9 overall from the field. He also helped set up the rest of the team with five assists. James and David Dunnigan joined him and Riggs in double-figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively. James was 5-of-9 with five rebounds and five assists, while Dunnigan came off the bench to make 5-of-7 with seven boards.

Dunnigan was one shy of Kevin Peterson who had eight for game-high honors in the rebound department. Together they helped the Storm outrebound the Marauders by a 45-31 count.

Central State was paced by Dorian Crutcher with 15 points and aided by Dwight Richards Jr. with 14.

Lake Erie returns to action Saturday as hosts to Edinboro in regional action. The Storm and Fighting Scots will tip off at 3 p.m.
