PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie men's golf team is ninth of 13 schools after the first day of the season-opening Lake Superior State Invitational at The Oaks in Kicheloe, Mich. on Saturday (Sept. 11).
Junior Frank Whites III (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) shot a 4-over 76 to lead the Storm in the first round, tying for 18th place individually after 18 holes. Sophomore Mike Guarino (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) was two strokes behind in a tie for 31st with a 78 and senior C.J. Milo (Painesville, Ohio/Mentor) shot a 79. Junior Matt Hennessey (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) rounded out the team scoring with an 85.
The Storm's team score of 318 was one better than Ferris State and just nine behind Grand Valley State (309). The 13-team field features 12 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams.
The second and final round begins Sunday, Sept. 12, at 9:30 a.m.
