Men's Golf Wraps Up First NCAA Regional Event

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College men's golf team posted a second day team score of 321 to finish in 25th place at the NCAA Divsion II Fall Midwest Regional Monday (Sept. 26) at Hawkshead Golf Course in South Haven, Mich.

The Storm finished with a two-day team score of 641, one stroke behind William Jewell University.  Lake Erie was five shots ahead of Saint Joseph's College (Ind.).

Individually, junior Mike Guarino (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) tied for 66th with a 76-80-156 and was the Storm's top finisher.  Sophomore Tyler Walters (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) was next at 82-80-162, followed by senior Matt Hennessey (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) at 79-84-163.

Senior Frank Whites III (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) and junior Troy Hunter (Aurora, Ohio/Crestwood) tied at 164.

Indianapolis University won the team title with a 290-299-589, four strokes ahead of Ferris State University. Shawn Vanderwal of Drury University was the individual medalist with a score of 3-under 141.

The Storm will compete in its second Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships Oct. 2-3 at the Eagle Eye Golf Course at Hawk Hollow in Bath, Mich.
