Men's Golf Adds Five for Upcoming Season
PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College men's golf team will be bolstered by the addition of five incoming student-athletes when the Storm reports to campus in a few weeks. Head Coach Milt Johnson recently announced his 2012 recruiting class which will look to make an impact on the conference race this year.
"We are very excited about this group of guys coming in," Johnson said. "They can all really play and will push our returning guys for a chance to be part of that regular rotation."
The recruiting class includes a pair of state qualifiers in Derek Hastings (Johnstown, Ohio/Johnstown Monroe) and Jimmy Wild (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Trinity) and a total of four district qualifiers. All five players are from within the state of Ohio, including four from the northeast corner of the Buckeye State.
"The level of competition in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is very high, which is something we've seen firsthand the past two seasons," said Johnson. "To be able to compete we need to build depth in our program by increasing our talent level each and every year. With this group coming in, we have done just that."
In addition to Hastings and Wild, the class also includes newcomers Nick Bubon (Warren, Ohio/Howland), Nick Stranman (Jefferson, Ohio/Jefferson) and Bart Wyss (Salem, Ohio/Salem).
Those five will team up with five returners led by seniors Mike Guarino (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) and Troy Hunter (Aurora, Ohio/Crestwood). The Storm opens its season Sept 7-8 in Marquette, Mich. at the Northern Michigan University Match Play event.
