Storm Men Tied for 8th After Opening Round of GLIAC Championship

ELYRIA, -- The Lake Erie College men's golf team is tied for eighth after the opening round of the 2012 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships Sunday (Oct. 14) at the Elyira Country Club. 

The Storm posted a team score of 313 for the first 18 holes, tied with the University of Findlay.  Tiffin University and Ashland University are currently tied for the top spot at 303, four shots ahead of Ferris State University.

Individually, junior Tyler Walters (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) shot a 2-over 74 in the first round and is part of a group of seven golfers tied for sixth place.  Though he was the only member of the Storm to break the Top 30, Lake Erie had three golfers between 32-39 in round one.

Senior Mike Guarino (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor), who was 15th at last year's conference championship, is tied for 32nd place at 7-over 79.  Junior Jay Schiffbauer (Fairport Harbor, Ohio/Fairport Harbor) and freshman Jimmy Wild (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Trinity) are tied for 39th, one stroke behind at plus-8 (80).  Freshman Bart Wyss (Salem, Ohio/Salem) is the final member of the Storm contingent, currently in 67th.

Round two resumes on Monday, Oct. 15, at 11 a.m.
