ELYIRA, OHIO -- The Lake Erie College men's golf team finished 11th at the 2012 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships hosted by Ashland University at Elyria Country Club.
The Storm totaled a three-round team score of 313-316-312=941 which was nins trokes better than Northern Michigan University and just three behind Lake Superior State University.
Senior Mike Guarino (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) was the team's top finisher, tying for 34th place after shooting a two-over 74 in the final round to give him a three-round total of 231 (79-78-74). Guarino was the only Storm golfer in the top 50.
Junior Jay Shiffbauer (Fairport Harbor, Ohio/Fairport Harbor) tied for 53rd at 236 (80-77-79) and freshman Jimmy Wild (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Trinity) was 57th at 238 (80-79-79). Junior Tyler Walters (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) couldn't capitalize on his opening-round 74 and fifnished tied for 58th at 239 (74-85-80). Freshman Bart Wyss (Salem, Ohio/Salem) rounded out the Storm contingent in 67th place at 251 (85-82-84).
Grand Valley State Univerrsity overcame an 11-stroke deficit on the final day to win the team title by nine strokes over Ferris State University. The Lakers' Joel Siegel was the individual medalist, carding a 54-hole total of 203 (73-70-65).
