ALLIANCE, OHIO -- Backed by a pair of 75's, the Lake Erie College men's golf team opened the fall portion of its schedule Friday (Sept. 14) with an opening round team score of 309 at the Malone University Fall Invitational at Tannehauf Golf Club in Alliance.
The Storm's score of 309 puts them in seventh place in the team standings, just seven strokes out of second place. Host Malone took charge early with a 280, including a 66 by opening-round individual leader Tyler Light.
Lake Erie's got low scores of 75 from senior Tyler Walters (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) and freshman Ian Hardesty (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin). The pair are currently tied for 14th place after the first 18 holes.
Freshman Matt Frey (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) also opened his college career with a sub-80 round, carding a 79. He is tied for 33rd place.
The tournament wraps up with second-round action Saturday, Sept. 14, starting at 10:30 a.m.
