SOUTH HAVEN, MICH. -- The Lake Erie College men's golf team is in 13th place after the first day of competition Saturday (Sept. 21) at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Invitational at Hawkshead Golf Club in South Haven, Mich.
The Storm posted a team score of 315, just four strokes behind 12th place Lake Superior State University. Lake Erie is five shots up on Northern Michigan University.
Individually, senior Tyler Walters (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) had Lake Erie's low round of the day with a 76. He is tied for 37th individually. Freshman Ian Hardesty (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) was the only other Storm player to break 80, shooting a 78.
However, no Lake Erie golfer was higher than 82 on a challenging course that saw just nine golfers break par on the day.
Saginaw Valley State University is currently in first in the team standings, two strokes ahead of Grand Valley State University.
Round two action gets underway Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m.
