CALUMET CITY, ILL. -- The Lake Erie College men's golf team finished 31st of 33 teams at the first NCAA regional event of the season, posting a team score of 640 at the Midwest Fall Regional No. 1 held at Harborside International Golf Club. The two-day event concluded on Monday (Sept. 30)
After an opening-round team score of 326, the Storm bounced back to improve by a dozen shots in round two for a 314.
Lake Erie was led by freshmen Ian Hardesty (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) and Matt Frey (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) who tied for 106th place individually at 157. Hardesty shot an 81 in the first round and came back with a 76 in round two, while Frey shot the team's low round of the tournament Monday at 2-over 74, a nice bounce-back from a first-round 83.
The Storm finished just eight shots behind Quincy University for 30th place and were 19 strokes ahead of 32nd-place Alderson Broaddus College.
Lake Erie is in Lansing, Mich. this weekend for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships Oct. 5-7.
