BATAVIA, Ohio – Lake Erie placed 29th in the two-day NCAA-II Midwest Regional concluded on Sunday.
Ian Hardesty (78-78—156) carded a T75 finish to finish as the Storm's top player over the two days at Elks Run Golf Club. Lake Erie carded a four-man score of 351 on day one and then shaved 25 strokes off that mark with a 326 on day two. LEC's 677 score placed 29th in a field of 29.
Malone (292-286—578) won the event, finishing 18 strokes clear of fellow Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Ferris State-Mich. (292-304—596).
Lake Erie's top three scorers were Hardesty, Jimmy Wild (82-79—161, T106) and Nick Bubon (93-86—179, T136). Malone's Nate Tarter earned medalist honors at the par-71, 6,673-yard Greg Norman layout. Tarter scored a 68-70—138 to finish one stroke ahead of teammate Tyler Light (71-68—139).
The event in Batavia, Ohio, marked the first of Lake Erie's 2013-14 spring season. It also marked the front half of two NCAA-II regional events on the spring calendar. The second of those regional tournaments is scheduled for April 13-14 in Noblesville, Ind.
