CENTERVILLE, MASS. -- Lake Erie College sophomore defender Justin Goodwin (New Westminster, B.C./New Westminster Secondary) was named the East Coast Athletic Conference Division II Lacrosse League "Defensive Player of the Week" when the league announced its weekly awards Monday (March 25).
Goodwin played a big role in the Storm's 9-3 win at Wheeling Jesuit University last week. He led the team with seven ground balls and held Landon DelPrince scoreless with just a single shot in the game. DelPrince entered the contest as the Cardinals' second-leading scorer with 18 goals.
As a team, Lake Erie limited DelPrince and leading scorer Brian Frank (23 goals) to just one goal on three shots.
Overall, Goodwin leads the team with 33 ground balls, a total that ranks second overall in the ECAC D2 Lacrosse League.
This marks the fourth time in four weeks that a Lake Erie player has received a weekly award from the conference office.
The 11th-ranked Storm (4-1, 1-0 ECAC) are at Alderson-Broaddus College Wednesday, March 27.
