TAMPA, Fla.-- The 10th-ranked Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team was unsuccessful in their battle with seventh-ranked University of Tampa, falling 19-8 Saturday (March 8).
After Trevor Tarte (Amhertsburg, Ont./Kiski Prep) scored the games first goal, Tampa took a 3-1 lead. Austin Bishop (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) got the Storm back on the board, cutting the lead to one. Tampa increased the lead to 5-2 in the second quarter before Reagan Harding (Sakskatoon, Sask./Bishop James Mahoney) brought the lead to two. After another Tampa goal, Ryan Jurek (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) scores his first goal of the game. However, Tampa ended the half on a 3-0 run.
Harding scored two goals in the third quarter and Tarte added his second goal but Tampa netted four in the quarter to extend their lead. Jurek scored his second goal late in the fourth but it was enough for the Storm.
Harding and Jurek had three points each for Lake Erie while Tarte and Bishop had two. Macgregor Johnston (Nanaiamo/Dover Bay), Mitchell Shafer (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) and defenders Adam Bakular (Courtenay, B.C./G.P. Vanier) and Kole Robinson (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) had one assist each. In addition to his goal and assist, Bishop led the Storm with five ground balls while Justin Goodwin (New Westinster, B.C./New Westminster Secondary) had three.
Nicholas Simonetti (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome/Queens) made 13 saves in goal for the Storm.
The Storm went four-of-six on extra man opportunities. Tampa had a slight lead in shots, 44-42.
The Storm is back in action against Pfeiffer University on March 15.
