Simonetti Named USILA Defensive POW

PERRY, N.Y—Lake Erie College senior goalie Nicholas Simonetti (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome/Queens) was named United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in road wins over 11th-ranked University of Mount Olive and 14th-ranked Belmont Abbey College last week.

Earlier this week, Simonetti was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Defensive Player of the Week.

The Storm defeated Mount Olive 10-9 in triple overtime last Wednesday (March 11) and Belmont Abbey 8-4 Friday (March 13). 

Against Mount Olive, Simonetti made nine stops, including one in the final five seconds of play to send the game into overtime.  In the extra sessions, Simonetti made two saves.  In the win over Belmont Abbey, Simonetti made 10 saves.  On the year, Simonetti is 4-0 in net.

This marks the second USILA Defensive Player of the Week honor for the Storm this season.  Justin Goodwin (New Westminster, B.C./New Westminster Secondary) earned the honor on March 4.

The fourth-ranked Storm is back in action on the road this Saturday (March 21) against top-ranked Limestone College.
