Three Storm Lacrosse Players Earn POW Honors

DANBURY, Conn.—Three members of the top-ranked Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team earned Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week honors for their performances against Limestone College.

Mitchell Shafer (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg), Nicholas Simonetti (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome/Queens) and Lucas Shafer (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) earned Offensive, Defensive and Rookie of the Week honors respectively. 

In addition to the ECAC honor, Mitchell Shafer was also named Lacrosse Magazine Division-II Player of the Week.  Shafer scored two goals while assisting on four more against Limestone.  This season, Shafer has tallied 11 points on three goals and eight assists.

Simonetti earned his second straight Defensive Player of the Week honors.  He made 13 saves at Limestone while collecting four groundballs and causing two turnovers.  He is currently sixth in the country in goals against average, allowing just 7.02 goals per game.

Lucas Shafer also earned his second straight Rookie of the Week honor and third overall of the season.  The freshman scored three goals- including the game winner- while assisting on two at Limestone.  This season, Shafer has totaled 17 points on 11 goals and six assists.

The Storm opens up Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) play this week on the road at Ohio Valley University and Alderson-Broaddus University.
