Storm Wins Thriller Over Ohio Valley, 11-10

PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team defeated the Ohio Valley University Fighting Scots on Wednesday (March 22) night in a thrilling, back and forth battle at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.

The Storm defeated the Fighting Scots 11-10.

Gavin Caulfield (West Seneca, N.Y. / Bishop Timon-St. Jude) opened the scoring for the Storm less than one minute into the game. John Kezerian (Melrose, Mass. / Malden Catholic) followed with a goal, making it 2-0 Lake Erie. Ohio Valley scored three straight goals to take a 3-2 lead with two minutes left in the first quarter.

Caulfield tied the game with his second goal of the game, with 8:25 left in the first half. Ohio Valley regained the lead with two goals in the final four minutes of the first half. The Fighting Scots led the Storm 5-3 at halftime.

Ohio Valley started the second half with a goal, pushing the lead to three. Jacob Desrosiers (Brighton, Mich. / Brighton) scored on an assist from Edmond Renaud (Carlisle, Ont. / Waterdown District / Pfeiffe) ninety seconds into the half. The Fighting Scots answered with a goal, making it 7-4 with ten minutes left in the third. Caulfield started a Storm two-goal spurt with his third goal of the game. Brandon Donahue (South Buffalo, N.Y. / Bishop Timon-St. Jude) went back-to-back with Caulfield as the Storm pulled within one at 7-6. Ohio Valley led 7-6 going to the fourth.

Ohio Valley added a goal to begin the fourth quarter, pushing the lead to 8-6. Nicholas Tschetter (Hilton, N.Y. / Aquanis Institute) cut the lead to one with an unassisted goal with nine minutes left. With 7:48 left, the Fighting Scots regained a 9-7 lead.  Mitchell Stokes (New Westminister, B.C. / New Westminister Secondary) and Donahue combined for two straight goals to tie the game at nine. James Chadwick (Amherst, N.Y. / Amherst Central) gave the Storm a 10-9 with a goal assisted by Patrick Bay (Canadaigua, N.Y. / Canadaigua Academy). Ohio Valley ties the game with a goal with three minutes left. Tschetter pulled the Storm back to the lead with 2:25 left in the game.

Caulfield led the Storm with three goals while Donahue and Tschetter scored two goals each. Bret Swan (Acton City, Ont. / Halton Hills) grabbed 11 groundballs as he won 19 of his 25 face-offs in the game.

Alex Corbett (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Bishop Timon) and Tyler Manning (Hamburg, N.Y. / Bishop Timon-St. Jude) each had three groundballs and three caused turnovers. Donahue also had two groundballs and two caused turnovers in the game.

The Storm will be back in action on Saturday (March 25) as they play host to the University of Indianapolis at 1:00 PM.
