Late Surge Lift Greyhounds Over Storm

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team was in action today as they were defeated by the University of Indianapolis, 10-7. 

The Storm opened the scoring in the first minute of the game when Reid Hnidy (Saskatoon, Sask. / Genesee CC) scored an unassisted goal.  The Greyhounds battled back with three straight goals in the quarter to take a 3-1 lead.   The Storm halted the run after a seven minute scoreless battle when Edmond Renaud (Carlisle, Ont. / Waterdown District / Pfeiffer) found the back of the net off a feed from Hnidy.  The Storm tied the game when Nicholas Tschetter (Hilton, N.Y. / Aquanis Institute)scored with just over two minutes remaining in the first quarter, and the teams entered the second quarter tied at 3-3. 

The Greyhounds started the second quarter with back to back goals to take a 5-3 advantage.  The Storm answered with a goal of their own when Connor Ward (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) scored off a feed from Mitchell Stokes (New Westminster, B.C. / New Westminster Secondary).  The Greyhounds scored late in the second quarter and took a 6-4 lead into the intermission. 

At the half the Storm was led Hnidy as he had a goal and an assist in the half. 

The third quarter opened up when Anthony Vitale (Penfield, N.Y. / Penfield) scored off an assist from Nick Benningfield (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg/Limestone).  Five minutes later the Greyhounds regained a two goal edge, 7-5.  The Storm answered back with two consecutive goals late in the quarter.  The first goal was scored by Tschetter off a feed from Renaud, and the game tying goal was scored by Gavin Caulfield (West Seneca, N.Y. / Bishop Timon-St. Jude) off an assist from Brandon Donohue (South Buffalo, N.Y. / Bishop Timon St. Jude).  The teams entered the four quarters deadlocked at 7 goals apiece.

The Greyhounds scored three goals in the fourth quarter.  The Storm was unable to muster a comeback and fell 10-7.

The Storm was led by Hnidy as he had a goal, an assist, and picked up four groundballs.  Tschetter added a pair of goals for the Storm.

Lake Erie will be back in action Tuesday (March 28) when they travel to take on Walsh University.
