Men's Soccer Falls Minute Short of First GLIAC Result

Lake Erie College (1-15-1, 0-11 GLIAC) was within a minute of its first GLIAC result, but fell with 36 seconds remaining in the second overtime, 2-1, to the University of Findlay (4-9-3, 2-7-2 GLIAC) in a GLIAC match at Slattery Field in Painesville, Ohio.

The Oilers game winner was the second of the day for Joey Gouglin as a free kick from midfield by Mate Farkas was headed by Dan Stelletell to Gouglin who headed in the winner.

In the first half, Lake Erie got on the scoreboard first in the 30th minute when senior Justin Mihaly (Lowellville, Ohio/Ursuline) scored his second goal of the season off a cross from junior forward Marco Gaudio (Cambridge, England/Impington Village College).  The Oilers responded in the 39th minute when Gouglin scored from close range after a nice effort towards the goal from Nick Pahren.

In the 58th minute it appeared Mihaly would get his second goal as his shot headed towards an open net before Findlay goalkeeper Matthew Brooks made a kick save at the last second.  Ten minutes later a potential go-ahead goal by Gaudio was taken off the boards due to offsides.  Lake Erie dominated the chances of the second half but couldn't find the goal.

Findlay outshot Lake Erie, 22-18, and held a 13-6 advantage in corner kicks in the evenly played game.

It was a light day of work for sophomore Ricky Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy), the Division II leader in saves, with eight stops on the game.

The Storm is home for their final match of the season this Sunday against Tiffin at 3:30 p.m on Senior Day.
