CANTON, Ohio—A strong second half from Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference newcomer Malone University (2-4, 2-3 GLIAC) lifted the Pioneers over the Lake Erie College men's soccer team (2-6, 1-4 GLIAC) 5-0 in a GLIAC contest on Sunday (Sept. 23) at Pioneer Soccer Field in Canton, Ohio.
Malone got on the scoreboard early with a fourth minute goal by Sam Erchick. In the second half, the Pioneers added four more goals. Ryan Brumbaugh tallied two goals in a nine minute span to put Malone ahead 3-0. Rubem Miranda and Adam Sharpnack added a goal apiece to close out the scoring.
Felipe Monteiro tallied six saves in the shutout for the Pioneers, while Brumbaugh led the offense with two goals.
Sam Etheron (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) recorded seven saves in his second start of the season. Gary Carr (Dublin, Ireland/Irish Colaiste College of Further Education Soccer Academy) led the Storm with four shots.
The Storm return home to The Britt on Friday (Sept. 28), hosting GLIAC opponent Ashland University at 6 p.m.
