Storm Falls Short Against 11th-ranked Ashland

PAINESVILLE, Ohio—The Lake Erie College men's soccer team (2-7, 1-5 GLIAC) were unable to overcome two second half goals goals from the 11th-ranked Ashland University Eagles (6-1-1, 5-1), falling 2-0 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest Friday night (Sept. 28) at the Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.

The Storm offense pressured the Eagles throughout the first half, but were unable to put a goal past Justin Nolan. Lake Erie recorded six shots in the half while holding the Eagles to just two. The six shots by the Storm came from six different players.

The Eagles opened the second half with a quick goal. In the 47th minute, Guilherme Karaoglan found Eric Ashley inside the Lake Erie goalie box for the Eagles goal, his first of the season. Jamie Dollar would connect on an direct kick from 15 yards out, following a Storm foul in the 63rd minute, to increase the Ashland lead to 2-0.

Sam Etherton recorded five saves for the Storm, and Robert Vallareli (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) led the Storm with three shots.

The Storm return to action on Sunday (Sept. 30) to face GLIAC foe Tiffin University ( 2-3-2, 1-3-1 GLIAC) at 7 pm at The Britt.
