FINDLAY, OHIO—The Lake Erie College men's soccer team defeated the University of Findlay 2-0 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match on Sunday (Oct. 7) in Findlay, Ohio to snap a six-game losing streak.
Stefan Martin (Surrey, England) opened up the scoring for the Storm (3-9-0, 2-7-0 GLIAC) in the 34th minute, striking from the right side of the box over top of Oilers ' (4-7-0, 2-7 GLIAC) goalie Matthew Brooks. Ryan Gibson (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) sealed the win for the Storm in the 57th minute with a header off a cross from Anthony Novak (Tornot, Ont./St. Mary Catholic) to increase the lead to 2-0. The Storm defense held on the two-goal advantage while keeping Findlay off the scoreboard to pick up the 2-0 road win.
Filip Ljubevski (Ajax, Ont./Pickering) recorded five goals in net for his second shutout of his freshman season. Martin and Gibson combined for six shots-four and two respectively-to lead the Storm offense.
The Storm return to action on Thursday (Oct. 11) at rival Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio for a rematch from earlier in the season, in which Notre Dame won 3-0, at 7:00 pm.
