Gibson, Cognee Named to All-Ohio Second Team
PAINESVILLE, OHIO—Lake Erie College men's soccer players Willy Cognee (Montreal Quebec, Canada) and Ryan Gibson (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scotio) were named to the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association (OCSA) NCAA Division II All-Ohio Second Team released on Tuesday, December 18.
"Evaluating the All-Ohio applicant pool is very difficult because it covers both GLIAC and Independent DII schools within the State. Both Gibson and Cognee are very competitive young men that displayed a lot of discipline and character throughout the season," said head coach David Carmichael. "We have a great core of rising freshmen and sophomore players that are gaining recognition and playing experience and building a platform for the years to come."
Cognee was a solid defender for the Storm this season. The sophomore played and started in 16 games. Cognee was previously named the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Freshman of the Year.
Gibson contributed as a midfielder and forward and was an All-GLIAC Honorable Mention. The freshman scored one goal on the season, coming in a 2-0 win over the University of Findlay on October 7. Gibson picked up an assist in his second career game against the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
"Ryan and Williy are very deserving of these awards and are both very important to us and to our program. We hope to build upon these individual awards and start pushing towards team awards and silverware over the next few seasons
