PAINESVILLE, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College men's soccer team looked strong in their preseason exhibition match Wednesday (Aug. 21), picking up a 2-0 victory over Capital University at the Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
After settling down early, the Storm got on the scoreboard at the twenty-minute mark of the first-half. Senior Stewart Bath (Billingham, England/Billingham Campus School/Averett University) slipped a passed ahead to junior Stefan Martin (Surrey, England), who set up a cross that was put away by freshman Stuart Campbell (Glassglow, Scotland/Glassglow Academy). Sophomore Anthony Novak (Toronto, Ont./St. Mary Catholic) scored the Storm's second goal of the night off a pass from freshman Andrew Bucur (Bedford, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel).
Head Coach Davie Carmichael on the win: "Overall, the game was a good first test for us. We maintained and controlled a high percentage of possession throughout the game. We looked defensively sound for the majority of the game and stuck to our tactical objectives and game plan. Our goal for this contest was to stay organized in shape, keep a clean sheet and convert our opportunities and we did just that tonight. We look forward to continuing the hard work on the training field over the remainder of our pre-season period."
