Carmichael Announces Storm's Recruiting Class and Newcomers

PAINESVILLE, Ohio—Lake Erie College men's soccer Head Coach Davie Carmichael announced the Storm's 2014 recruiting class and newcomers Tuesday (August 12).

"These incoming players are full of energy, enthusiasm and talent," said Carmichael. "All of these players are versatile and can play in a variety of roles which is a great thing for any coach because it brings more possibilities and options while adding competition and depth to the team.

"It has also been part of our recruiting plan to bring in players who have a personal desire to learn and develop themselves, and that's true of all of these incoming student-athletes," continued Carmichael. "We are really looking forward to watching them grow and develop over their four years here at Lake Erie."

The Storm will add nine players to this year's squad, joining the team from Ohio, Canada and Iceland.

"Many of these incoming players are very local to Lake Erie, having played with and against each other at the club level which has given us the opportunity to watch them mature over the last couple of years," Carmichael added. "We also have two Canadian players and an Icelandic player that will give our incoming class International diversity. We are excited to see how quickly all of these players can adapt to collegiate soccer and our style and speed of play."

Carmichael led the Storm to one of their best seasons last year.  After qualifying for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament for the first time in program history, the Storm hosted and won their first GLAIC playoff match against Northwood University.

"Although we have a very experienced returning group of players, it has always been part of our philosophy to bring in and immediately blend talented young players with the older players," concluded Carmichael. "This has been vital in giving us stability over the last few years."
