Coombs Named ECAC Defensive Player of the Week

DANBURY, Conn.—Lake Erie College men's soccer defender Joseph Coombs (Knutsford, England/Holmes Chapel Sixth Form) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division-II ECAC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in two Storm victories this year.

Coombs also earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The Storm defeated Alderson Broaddus University 3-1 Wednesday (Oct. 29) and GLIAC foe Ohio Dominican University 6-0 on Friday (Oct. 31).

Against Alderson Broaddus, Coombs anchored the Storm's back line, allowing just seven total shots and only three on goal.  The Storm defense was even more impressive against Ohio Dominican, allowing only five shots- none of which were on target.  In addition to his defensive prowess, Coombs added two goals and an assist against Ohio Dominican.  On the season, Coombs has accumulated three goals.
