Early Goal Leads Lake Erie Over Ohio Dominican

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – Lake Erie's G-MAC Tournament debut was a good one as it took down a higher seeded Ohio Dominican 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. The No. 5 Storm (9-5-4) defeated the No. 4 Panthers (8-9-1) for the second time on the road this season after also winning a 3-2 decision in September.

The Storm's goal came early in the contest as Javier Borreguero connected for his sixth goal of the season on a pass from Ezekiel Ebenezer at the 7:08 mark.

From there, Lake Erie kept the pressure on with another pair of shots, one each from Borreguero and Ebenezer, in the next five minutes to give them five already in the contest, but eventually slipped into a defensive roll. The Storm only had seven more chances the rest of the game, but still managed to outshoot the Panthers 12-11.

Most of ODU's chances also came early with eight shots in the first half, but were limited in opportunities in the second. The Panthers did have an edge in set plays with nine corner kicks, but few resulted in shot attempts on the receiving end.

Tom John was excellent in goal for the Green and White with six saves to give Lake Erie its fifth shutout of the season.

Lake Erie will now prep for a semifinal contest against top-seeded and G-MAC champion Tiffin on Thursday. The Storm took a tough 5-1 loss in the prior meeting, but it was their first of the season and took place back on September 6. Kickoff with the Dragons will be at 12 p.m.
