SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Lake Erie College men's tennis team dropped its spring and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener Friday afternoon (Feb. 15), falling on the road at Lake Superior State University, 8-1.
Freshman Liam Goldberg (Melbourne, Australia/Haileybury College) won his match at first singles in straight sets, defeating Felix DeSharnai 6-3, 6-1.
However, the host Lakers (1-5, 1-1 GLIAC) won the other five singles matches in straight sets. Goldeberg and redshirt freshman Juan Roggia (San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina / Sa Grado Corazon) dropped an 8-5 decision at first doubles. The Storm was defeated in the other two doubles matches by identical 8-3 scores.
Lake Erie continues its opening weekend road trip on the Upper Peninsula on Saturday, Feb. 16, with a conference match at Michigan Technological University.
