MENTOR, OHIO – Freshman Liam Goldberg (Melbourne, Australia / Haileybury College) and redshirt freshman Juan Roggia (San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina/Sa Grado Corazon) had a perfect afternoon combining for three victories, but it wasn't enough to lead the Lake Erie College men's tennis team past visiting Edinboro University Sunday (March 10) as the Fighting Scots posted a 5-4 nonconference victory at the Mentor-Heisley Racquet & Fitness Club.
Goldeberg improved to 6-0 at first singles with an easy victory over Matias Aignasse. Golberg won the first set 6-2 and was up 4-2 in the second before Aignasse retired with an injury. He has not lost a set in singles competition this spring.
Roggia, meanwhile, picked up the first victory of his college career, defeating Kevin Caldwell 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) to up his mark to 1-3 this season.
The tandem also picked up an 8-4 win at first doubles over Aignasse and Brandon Romain, evening their doubles record to 2-2.
The Storm (0-6) also picked up a win at second double as the team of junior Kyle O'Dell (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) and freshman Luke Hobbs (Yarm, Englad/Conyers School) held off Amir Talab and James Cooper 8-6.
Edinboro (8-3) picked up an 8-1 win at third doubles and took the other four singles matches in straight set. O'Dell did take Kody Duncan to a second-set tiebreaker before falling 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).
The Storm is scheduled for a nonconference match Saturday, March 16, at D'Youville College.
