MENTOR, OHIO -- Visiting Wayne State University moved within one match of the top spot in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings with a 7-2 win over the Lake Erie College men's tennis team Friday (April 12) at the Mentor-Heisley Racquet & Fitness Club.
The Storm (1-13, 0-8 GLIAC) won the first match of the day as first doubles team Liam Goldberg (Melbourne, Australia/Haileybury College) and Juan Roggia (San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina/Sa Grado Corazon) picked up an 8-5 victory. The win moved them to 4-6 on the season.
Wayne State (10-5, 7-1) won the other two doubles matches and then five of six singles matches. The lone Storm singles win belonged to Goldberg, who knocked off Aman Gill 6-1, 6-2 to run his record at first-singles to 12-2 on the season.
Wayne State trails Northwood University by just one game in the GLIAC team standings. Lake Erie hosts the Timberwolves Sunday, April 14, in the conference regular season finale.
