Storm Pick Up First Win on Day Two of Rebel Spring Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla.--The Lake Erie College softball picked up its first win of the season in dramatic fashion over Fayetteville State University on Monday (March 4), 7-6, before falling to Rockhurst University later in the day, 5-0, on day two of the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. 

Fayetteville State jumped out to a 6-0 lead over the first three innings before the Storm got on the board in the bottom of the third when Maddi Klemp's (Akron, Ohio/Coventry) single scored Amanda Anderson (Streetsboro, Ohio/Streetsboro). The Storm added a second run in the fourth when Mackenzie Quinn (Ypsilanti, Mich./Milan) scored off a fielder's choice to cut the lead to 6-2. 

The Storm bats lit up in the bottom of the sixth. Meredith Scholle's (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central) double scored Courtney Hawk (New Lebanon, Ohio/Dixie) to start the rally. Scholle came across the plate on a Chelsey Bleck (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) single followed by a Morgan Studd (Wakeman, Ohio/Western Reserve) which scored Jennifer Gratz (Richwood, Ohio/North Union) to cut the Fayetteville State lead to 6-5. 

In the bottom of the seventh with Amber Dowen (New Lyne, Ohio/Pymatuning Valley) and Klemp on base, Scholle hit her second double of the day to drive both runners in for the walk-off win. 

Katarina Davis (Independence, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) picked up the win on the mound for the Storm to improve to 1-1 on the season. Scholle ended the game with three RBI on two hits. Bleck had two RBI while Klemp and Studd had one apiece.

The Storm were unable to get the offense rolling against Rockhurst University, with only Hawk and Quinn managing to produce a hits to for the Storm as Rockhurst jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.
