ALLENDALE, Mich.-- The Lake Erie College softball team fell to 15th-ranked Grand Valley State University in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader, 23-0 and 12-1, in Allendale, Mich on Saturday (March 30).
The Lakers bats lit up in the bottom of the first in game one, scoring 15 runs in the frame. Grand Valley hit three homeruns in the inning, including two grandslams. The Lakers hit three more homeruns in the third inning as the Grand Valley defense, led by pitcher Hannah Santora, continued to keep the Storm (2-12) hitters at bay, allowing only two hits, en route to the win.
Grand Valley continued to roll in game two, scoring six runs in the top of the first. After Maddi Klemp (Akron, Ohio/Coventry) led off the game for the Storm with a single and reached second on a Courtney Hawk (New Lebanon, Ohio/Dixie) sacrifice, she scored on a throwing error while stealing third to put the Storm on the board. The Lakers bounced back in the second, adding six more runs to finish the scoring for the game. Klemp led the Storm with two hits, a run and a stolen base. Jeniffer Gratz (Richwood, Ohio/North Union) also picked up a hit for the Storm.
The Storm is back in action on Tuesday, April 2, when they travel to Ashland University for a GLIAC doubleheader.
